Ministry Of Mindful Mischief
Passion Project
Role:
Strategist • Creative Director
Deliverables:
Brand system, insight strategy, creative framework, product ecosystem
What It Is
Ministry of Mindful Mischief is an artist-led studio (led by me, hello!) designing emotional infrastructure for neurodivergent and overstimulated minds. Blending regenerative design, nervous system literacy, and tactile storytelling to support rest, regulation, and creative survival.
My Role
I anchored the brand in my own lived experience and made it my mission to find out how to ease the burnout problem for other neurodivergent folk.

As Strategist, I translated nervous system theory into brand architecture: insight maps, strategic positioning, frameworks that can be used for the basis of creation.

As Creative Director, I built a tactile world from the ground up and gave a home to my art, designing rugs, ritual decks for facilitation, and sensory tools that serve both function and feeling.

What I Built
-
Brand System: Positioning, insight frameworks, audience architecture, category POV
-
Product Ecosystem: From entry-point zines and stickers to flagship sensory rugs and acoustic art, using the TOFU/MOFU, BOFU model.
-
Rest Philosophy baked in: A scalable methodology integrating polyvagal theory, Sandra Dalton-Smith’s rest types, and lived neurodivergent experience
-
Operational Engine: Burnout filters, values-check systems, and slow-build product ladders
Current areas of focus:
-
Regenerative design: rugs, wall panels, and soft kits for sensory relief
-
Neurodivergent-led strategy: applying nervous system literacy to rest, play and anti-burnout culture
-
Creative regulation tools: decks, rituals and visual prompts for emotional processing
Strategic Lens
This has been a long standing vision project, born from my late AuDHD diagnosis and a lifetime of asking myself why I was different. I’ve built this as a living creative nervous system. Every decision built to reduce cognitive load, invite self-trust, and reject performative wellness. A lofty project, which is still very much in-flight. But this is my vision piece, and it deserves the love and care I can give it.

Positioning Statement:
“Not wellness. Not productivity. Mischief.”

A Wabi Sabi Experiment
To challenge perfectionism, I wanted to load my illustrations into glitch software to create outcomes that would distort my original works in interesting ways to promote the idea that perfectionism restricts play and experimentation.

The results?
A beautiful demonstration of the wabi sabi philosophy. I particularly love the mandalas with their calming auroa, and the characters with their slightly chaotic and liminal vibe.
Applying this philosophy to tufted works
As I move towards acoustic art, I wanted to see how illustration, tufting and glitch effects can come together to give interesting and appealing results.
Oodles of doodles
I was once told off for all of my doodling - a comment that filled me with shame, and I took my art and my doodling into the shadows for over a decade.

It wasn't until a series of stressful, life changing events happened in unison - I realised I needed an emotionally regulating outlet, on my terms.
That is when this project was born.

I now cannot be seen without my doodling kit. I will doodle at any moment I get, because that is how I regulate and how I practice mindfulness.
That is my happy place.
What Others Are Saying
I worked with Crystal providing creative direction and project review. It was immediately apparent that Crystal is a talented, thoughtful creator, earnestly digging into the work in a new and meaningful way.

Watching the concepts evolve and take shape around neurodivergence and sound-dampening panels was fascinating—it feels like a perfect execution of the intentions behind the practice, bringing awareness to a misunderstood and underserved community while also producing a stunning portfolio of visual art in its own regard.
